ONE WORD

Poème de la Trinidadienne Kavita Vidya Ganness
ONE WORD

{Ce poème a été écrit par la jeune trinidadienne à l'occasion du Sommet des Amériques. Les professeurs d'anglais qui sont à l'affût de documents caribéens saisiront cette opportunité... Une biographie de l'auteur est à la suite du poème.}

Let’s unite the world, with one word,

Let’s make things right,

Let’s stop the wrongs and end the war

With the words we write.

Let my vision be a star that lights your eyes,

To brighten our now

And illuminate minds,

Let us see what stares us in our faces,

Let us see what we do not want to face.

Let these words hit the target

Of my aspirations which can be yours.

Let my words be a bridge,

Be a balm, be a fuel for change.

Let my words be a doorway,

Be a stepping-stone, be a treaty

To unite nations, peoples, cultures and ideas.

I’m ready to unite the world with one word alone,

And that one word is peace…

I’m ready to unite the world and inspire an army

Of peace advocates and visionaries.

Let us glean revelations

Through the pursuit of peace,

From seeing the internal in the external

And contemplating the realm between lines.

With hands ready to turn the pages

Of history to a positive era,

Let’s unite the world with one word alone.

My mind is brimming with ideas for change, thinking -

One hand can sign the treaty for the seemingly impossible,

One hand can stamp approval to touch countless lives with hope,

One hand can make a signature to inspire others to do the same…

Bright is our future, can you see our dazzling possibility?

Do you long for the warmth of contentment in myriads?

Do you dream of a world whose nucleus is unity?

Let us make ourselves the vessel for one voice,

Let us allow peace to echo within us and around us.

I have seen the grief of the unfortunate at the hands of

Suppressers, oppressors and crushers of ambitions,

How the media of this existence reeks with misery and corruption!

Every day many suffer from ignorance and unlucky circumstance,

Every day I see the glance of cold eyes that scorch the innocent,

Every day the blood spills like wasted oil from a fallen lamp.

Willingness armed with only a pen can annihilate conflict,

Worthy of a chance is the one solution we often avoid -

Peace is the one word we need.

Those who fight for power like vultures with a carcass,

Those who squander and wonder what happened after,

Those who rush to receive but never offer - all lose in the end.

Let us make ourselves ready…now is our time,

Possibility is flowing; change is what we need.

There are only two directions and that is forward or upwards,

Let’s face each other now with open minds and open hearts,

Open arms and open lips that speak one word, which is peace.

Let us unite the world with just one word.

Let’s unite the world with one word alone,

Let’s make things right,

Let’s stop the wrongs and end the war

With the words we write,

Let my vision be a star that lights your eyes

To brighten our now and illuminate minds

Let us see what stares us in our faces,

Let us see what we do not want to face.

Let us give peace permission to transform our world.

Let these words hit the target

Of my aspirations which can be yours.

Let my words be a bridge,

Be a balm, be a fuel for change.

Let my words be a doorway,

Be a stepping-stone, be a treaty

To unite nations, peoples, cultures and ideas.

Let’s unite the world with peace.

Let’s unite the world with one word.
